The Shropshire Society in London

The Society currently has around 250 members. It was founded in 1750 and re-formed in 1899 with the aim of welcoming Salopians to the capital and ensuring they immediately had a network of friends in London and enabling them to participate in some enjoyable events in the capital and in Shropshire – often at venues usually not available to the general public.

Past events and visits have included the Great Hall of the Middle Temple, Royal Courts of Justice, St Paul’s Cathedral, Lord's Cricket Ground, backstage at the Royal Opera House and in Shropshire at Stokesay Court, Ludlow Races, Shrewsbury School and Shrewsbury Flower Show Members’ Marquee.

In 2019 we celebrated the society’s 120th anniversary with a Civic Service at Shrewsbury Abbey and County Dinner at Loton Park. London events in 2019 included a Tour of Goldsmiths’ Hall.

Events in 2021 included a summer lunch party at Ticklerton Hall, Church Stretton and a visit to The Wallace Collection, London.

Every year there is the opportunity for a limited number of people  to attend the Quit Rents Ceremony at the Royal Courts of Justice.

See the full list of events for 2023.
