HONORARY LIFE MEMBERSHIP OF THE SHROPSHIRE SOCIETY IN LONDON AWARDED TO GARRISON SERGEANT MAJOR ANDREW (VERN) STOKES OBE MVO, COLDSTREAM GUARDS
Each year, The Shropshire Society in London hosts an afternoon Tea at the Shrewsbury Flower Show in the Members Marquee. It was particularly special this year because the Society awarded Honorary Life Membership to Garrison Sergeant Major Andrew (Vern) Stokes. In June 2023 he was awarded the honour of Officer of the British Empire (OBE) for his essential role in creating and delivering the State military ceremonial parts of H.M. Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral and The Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The Sergeant Major gave a speech to Society Members and guests about his role and his key involvement in the funeral of Queen Elizabeth and The Coronation.
SHROPSHIRE SOCIETY IN LONDON SALVER AWARDED TO HENSLOW SCHOOL – SECONDARY SCHOOLS COMPETITION – SHREWSBURY FLOWER SHOW
2023 marks the first year that The Shropshire Society in London has awarded their Silver Salver to the winning exhibitor of the Secondary Schools competition at the Shrewsbury Flower Show. Henslow School received the award. The School is an independent, day, Primary and Secondary School for young people with social, emotional and mental health challenges, as well as behavioural difficulties. Mrs Amanda Eastwood, Teacher of Maths and The Duke of Edinburgh Manager and co-ordinator of their entry in the competition, received the award on behalf of the School. The presentation took place at, The Shropshire Society in London afternoon Tea at the Shrewsbury Flower Show.
